The ASICS Gel-Nimbus was first conceived in the late 1990s as a neutral running shoe with exceptional cushioning inspired by soft, puffy clouds. In 2008, the series reached its 10th iteration, whose uniquely asymmetric upper set it apart from its predecessors. Sixteen years later, the brand revisited this classic shoe with a new silhouette called the Gel-Nimbus 10.1.

The upper of the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 10.1 mirrors that of the 2008 sneaker, with a distinctive blend of open mesh and curved overlays designed to fit the anatomy of the foot. This construction supports natural movement while also being highly breathable and visually striking, particularly across the forefoot. A large heel counter provides extra protection around the back, and the familiar ASICS logo swoops down each flank for a powerful look.

While this upper honors the retro styling of the original, the sole unit of the Gel-Nimbus 10.1 has been borrowed from another late-2000s running shoe, the Gel-Kayano 14. This popular silhouette was built to be a stability shoe, so its midsole incorporates high-tech features focused on comfort and support. Dual-layer EVA foam is paired with visible Gel pods in the forefoot and heel which together produce outstanding cushioning. The ASICS Trusstic system is applied below the arch of the foot, where its adaptive technology facilitates smooth transitions and protects against rolling, thus allowing freedom of movement without risk of injury. Lastly, the durable rubber outsole has the same complex tread pattern as the Gel-Kayano 14, ensuring excellent traction.

In addition to the trademark sidewall logos, the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 10.1 is punctuated with stylish branding elements, from the Gel text on the heel to the arcing tabs displaying the model name over the heel and tongue. Many of the release colorways feature shiny metallic overlays that enhance the shoe’s stunning retro-futurist look, and a series of collaborations with high-class fashion labels such as Kith helped generate excitement following its June 2024 release. 

Superstar NFL siblings Stefon and Trevon Diggs appeared in the launch campaign for the Gel-Nimbus 10.1, giving the model a further boost when it came out. Known for their athleticism and speed, the brothers were the perfect people to showcase the shoe’s comfort-giving capabilities and supportive functional features. 

Combined with the outstanding quality of its construction, the ASICS Gel-Nimbus 10.1 also has a compelling retro style that honors the brand’s powerful sporting legacy.
