V-S1

PUMA’s iconic V1 series debuted in 2005 with the innovative V1.06. Lightweight and supportive, V1 football boots imbued attacking players like Eto’o, Pires and Anelka with remarkable speed and control via cutting-edge features, before evolving into more advanced football boots. In 2025, PUMA chose to honor its impact on Y2K-era sport with a new lifestyle version known as the V-S1.

The PUMA V-S1 takes its inspirations from the first two models: the V1.06 and V1.08. Based on the latter, its upper has a breathable mesh base and durable leather overlays that replicate the curvaceous shapes of the 2006 shoe. Its mesh tongue incorporates perforations in its lower half and a sturdy leather peak to deliver ventilation over the top of the foot. Offset lacing originally designed to offer better boot-to-ball contact provides a snug fit, with lockdown further enhanced by the shoe’s solid heel frame, which is taken from the V1.06. The cutout sections of the original have been filled with a structural matrix that bolsters support to the back of the foot. Lastly, the inner lining is made from soft, flexible Lycra to create a smooth, comfortable feeling around the foot.

The low-profile sole unit of the PUMA V-S1 is influenced by the V1.08, with a partially split design that reduces weight without compromising on support. EVA cushioning keeps things comfortable, while translucent elements through the center of the forefoot and heel reveal a grid-like pattern that nods to the V1.06’s innovative carbon-fiber soleplate. The grip pads around the edges of its rubber outsole mimic the strategic placement of the studs on the V1.08, and, when added to the teardrop-shaped lugs across the forefoot, they provide reliable, pitch-inspired traction on a variety of surfaces.

The V-S1 is defined by its sporty esthetic and sleek shape, with dynamic design lines that nod to the rebellious yet high-performing V1 silhouettes of the 2000s. Its asymmetric upper and stud-like outsole evokes nostalgic football vibes, while its exaggerated branding produces a bold, eye-catching look. A PUMA Formstrip flows elegantly across the lateral flank, its haptic microdots adding to the shoe’s contrasting textures. A large Cat logo with a glossy finish reaches across the forefoot and medial flank, wrapping underneath the midfoot into the gap in the split sole, while miniature logos accent the tongue and heel, and a final feline appears behind the outsole’s translucent forefoot.

Launched as a lifestyle-focused sneaker with the debut Metallic Pack in April 2025, the initial Shadow Gray and Poised Pink V-S1 designs are punctuated by eye-catching metallic details. These were followed by a stunning black and white edition and a shimmering silver and white design, both of which celebrate the illustrious sporting history of the V1 series.

The PUMA V-S1 is a memorable sports-inspired sneaker that authentically expresses the brand’s rich football heritage. Its streamlined, low-to-the-ground design is effortlessly stylish, and its Y2K-era performance technology is both comfortable and supportive, making it a compelling silhouette with classy throwback appeal.
