This Jordan 11 Retro Low features a bright, dichromatic construction that is highly appealing. Its foundation is a translucent outsole with a vaguely blue tinge running through it and wavy grip lines that add traction underfoot. These are bolstered by two pods with a herringbone tread, one in the forefoot, the other the heel, both displaying a pale blue tone known as University Blue. The same shade of blue can also be found on the carbon fiber shank between the outsole and the midsole, here alternating with black to form a stylish grid pattern. With this supporting the foot, a white Jumpman resides in its center, bringing the iconic Jordan aesthetic to the sneaker.
Meanwhile, white Phylon foam has been used to craft the midsole, a full-length Air unit filling out its interior to cushion the foot. The AJ11’s signature patent leather mudguard appears above this, here in University Blue. The application of this alluring hue throughout the sneaker has earned it the nickname “UNC” as it is similar to the blue used by the University of North Carolina, which was Jordan’s alma mater before he joined the Chicago Bulls. It shows up again on the mini Jumpman embroidered into the heel and the strip of material that crosses over the center of the white tongue to accentuate the presence of Jordan and Jumpman text and another logo there, all of which are white.
Elsewhere, the main part of the upper is made of premium white leather, as is the heel overlay. More strips of white material reach upwards from the seam where the lustrous patent leather meets the upper to form the shoe’s unforgettable webbed lacing system. Each one loops back on itself to create eyelets for the white rope-like laces to thread through. Inside the shoe, soft white fabric covers the inner walls, before the insole switches to University Blue, a final Jumpman beaming out from its surface in white. Back on the outer, where the white inner lining spills out to shape a heel tab, the number 23 can be seen in black – a concluding nod to Jordan that completes this memorable AJ11 Low.
