Nike Zoom Vomero 5

This Nike Zoom Vomero 5 has been affectionately nicknamed Barbie for its glittery details and its vibrant color scheme, which blends white with three different shades of pink. Coral Chalk is one of these, and it covers most of the outsole, including the waffle grip pads arrayed across the forefoot and looping round the heel. Here, BRS 1000 text has been debossed into one of the pads to express the use of protective carbon rubber on high-wear areas. Meanwhile, the word “Duralon” shows up in one of the textured grooves of the forefoot to reveal the second type of rubber that has been applied here, which gives the outsole heaps of durability and excellent traction. Lighter colored areas appear at each end of the forefoot and on the two pads on the lateral side of the midfoot, the rest of which is a white recessed section. Fine black specks are scattered across the outsole, suggesting the use of recycled materials.

Above this is a supportive midsole made of spongy Cushlon foam, as indicated by the text embedded into its lateral midfoot. This part of the midsole is white, as is much of the rest of it, aside from a textured strip along the top lateral edge and the chunky cubes that run from the lateral side all the way to the back of the foot, all of which are Pink Foam. Nike Zoom lettering adorns the pink strip just below the upper, showing off the presence of this responsive cushioning in the midsole for even more comfort.

On the upper, the light shade of Pink Foam and the darker tone of Coral Chalk are joined by the shoe’s third pink: Hot Punch, which is even deeper than the other two. Leather and suede come together over the white mesh of the forefoot, the former material capping the toe in Pink Foam, its two dark pink reflective lines covered in shiny glitter. The suede part, meanwhile, which is also light pink, forms a frame over the forefoot, as well as the lower part of the eyestay. This last overlay extends up to the front of the collar but is obscured through the middle by the complex structure of the midfoot. The structure’s bottom layer is a thin mesh that allows the sides of the foot to breathe. Next up is a series of pink bars made of soft, flexible plastic that gives the flanks a ribbed appearance. Either side of this are two leather overlays in a deep shade of pink with lighter bands curving up through the center and eyelets in the top to accommodate the white laces. The whole structure then culminates in an intensely pink leather swoosh.

More white mesh skirts the collar, and below it is another piece of Pink Foam leather that wraps around the middle of the heel. Glittery bands extend along its sides, and a Nike swoosh with the same appealing glimmer lies at its center. The sturdy pink heel counter then delivers even more breathability as some of its tough triangular striations have been opened up on the sides to allow air to flow through. Inside, the shoe is entirely pink, from the gently padded lining to the plush insole, which has Nike branding printed onto it in a contrasting shade of pink.

Over the top of the foot, a broad white mesh coats the lower part of the tongue, while its upper section replicates the soft pink material of the inner. White textile loops hold the laces on either side, and a dark pink one secures them at the bottom. A longer piece in this deeper shade of pink and with a reflective stripe along its center provides an additional loop across the top. Lastly, the peak of the tongue contains a final captivating detail: a sparkling silver star with pink Nike lettering embroidered over it that brings an appropriately lustrous conclusion to this perfectly pink Vomero 5.
